Evaluation of the influence of accelerated carbonation on the microstructure and mechanical characteristics of coconut fibre-reinforced cementitious matrix

In this study, two methods were used to measure the carbonation depth of coconut fibre-reinforced mortars that prepared from Portland cement (PC) and calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA cement), including traditional phenolphthalein reagent thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Accelerated was conducted at 4% CO2 concentration, temperature 20 °C 65% relative humidity (RH) within 12 weeks. Complete detected in CSA cement-based mortar while PC-based carbonated partially according both used. The difference depth, however, is observed as soon TGA measurement applied. significant effectiveness process on microstructure changes mechanical characteristics cementitious matrix highlighted through change quantity carbonate (CC) portlandite (CH) different profiles comparison with natural cured samples.
